Sports Premium
🏆 Sports Premium Funding
At our school, we believe that physical education and sport play a vital role in helping our children lead healthy, active lives. The Sports Premium Grant is a government funding initiative designed to help primary schools across England make sustainable improvements to the quality of their PE, physical activity, and sport provisions.
What the Funding Can Be Used For
According to the Department for Education (DfE) guidelines, this revenue funding must be spent on additional and sustainable improvements. We use this grant to:
- Up-skill our staff: Providing continuous professional development (CPD) and training to ensure our staff confidently deliver high-quality physical education.
- Increasing quality of provision: Introducing new sports and physical activities to encourage more pupils to participate, purchasing equipment and resources including sporting programmes and external coaching.
- Increase participation: Funding competitive sport opportunities, including transportation to events, after-school clubs and both universal and targeted enrichment workshops. We are very proud that last year every child in Key Stage 2 got the opportunity to take part in an external sporting event.
Important Changes for the 2026/27 Academic Year
The 2026/27 academic year serves as a transitional period as the government phases out the traditional direct-funding model.
Moving forward, individual school cash allocations are being replaced by a central, national initiative called the PE and School Sport Partnerships Network. This new network will extend support to secondary schools and deliver universal resources, targeted coaching, and expert guidance directly to schools based on community needs.
To support primary schools through this change, the government has provided a one-off transitional payment through the existing premium framework to spend across the 2026/27 school year. This guarantees we can confidently maintain and elevate our sports provision while seamlessly bridging the gap to the new partnership system launching in April 2027.
